This course provides the knowledge and skills needed to safely recognize, evaluate, and respond to hazardous materials incidents at the operations level. Students will learn defensive response techniques, scene management, decontamination procedures, and methods to protect themselves, the public, and the environment during hazardous materials emergencies.
Classes may be taken in any order. However, the State of Idaho Fire Service Training requires successful completion of both the Hazardous Materials Operations and Structural Fire courses before Firefighter I certification can be awarded.
Classes meet in person for 4 hours one evening each week, with a weekend Saturday training session to complete required hands-on skills.
With our program students are required to purchase their own book. We are currently using Jones and Bartlett Hazardous Materials: Awareness and Operations 4th edition which you purchase HERE.
Winter 2027
